The Alejo Carpentier Foundations, settled in October 15th, 1993, with the heritage donated by Mrs. Lilia Andrea Esteban de Carpentier and by the Cuban State, is a civilian, non governmental, autonomuos, non-lucrative foundation, having its own heritage and subject to duties and obligations according to ruling Cuban laws.

Among its main aims are: collaboration in Cuban culture development by promotion and support of projects which preserve national identity; national and international writer’s life, as well as the study of his literary and artistic production, to treasure and preserve its bibliographich funds, and to publish Carpentier’s work in Cuba and abroad. Besides it assists individual creators, institutions and projects related with art and literature. It develops promoting programs which retrieve and defend Cuban literature legacy. It also grants scholarships, economic assistance and other ways of collaboration in order to ease writers´ works and organization of literary contests make up the wide range of this institution’s aims.
