Chile Awards Cuban Historian

CHILE, October 13, 2008. (Prensa Latina) Cuban historian Eusebio Leal will receive an honorary degree from top authorities at the Central University (UCEN) of Chile, in recognition of his contributions to the rescue of Cuban heritage.

Leal will be awarded Tuesday at the Faculty of Architecture, Urbanism and Landscape at the UCEN, in a ceremony led by Rector Luis Lucero, the faculty's dean Eliana Israel and Heritage Studies Center director Patricion Gross, among other academics.

According to Prensa Latina, the historian will travel Monday to the neighboring port of Valparaiso, declared World Heritage by UNESCO, where municipal authorities will grant him the "Keys of the City" and discuss his work.

Wednesday's agenda includes a magisterial lecture entitled "New experiences and a return to Santiago," and meet with the UCEN architecture students.

He will also speak with members of the National Monuments Council, visit some urbanization projects, and speak with media before returning to Havana Friday.(Cubaminrex – PL)
