World-wide known by ICAIC, the Instituto Cubano del Arte e Industria Cinematográficos (Cuban Institute on Cinematographic Arts and Industry), was created just 83 days after the triumph of the Cuban Revolution, what makes evident the interest of the new government for artistic culture and, specifically, for the Seventh Art.

For those years Cuba have neither a real industry and, consecuently, nor the right filmakers nor technical personnel. Inmediately, the new institution devoted to the fulfillment of two ambitious projects : creating a Cuban nationa cinematography and promoting the creation of a more informated and illustrated cinematographic audience.

Just in a few years the ICAIC film production got international prestige endorsed by hundreds of awards earned in festivals all over the world, and, specifially, documentary was considered as something to be really added to world cinema. This is how the so-called Escuela Documental Cubana. (Cuban Documentary School) appeared.
But even more, the ICAIC exerts a considerable weight upon the whole Cuban cultural life and other artisti expressions like music and visual arts, where significant new aspects has been irradiated by its work. Such is the case of the Cuban movie poster, renowned as a project whih goes far beyond mere publicity, in order to become an art product with its own values. Or the impulse exerted by the Grupo de Experimentación Sonora del ICAIC (ICAIC Group of Sound Experimentation) upon the best expressions and significant creators of Cuban music.
