Studying, researching and promoting contemporary visual arts of underdeveloped African, Latin American, Asian and Caribbean countries, so called Third World Countries.

It contributes to pay homage to Wilfredo Lam, important XX Century Cuban artist, whose work resumes, in genial synthesis, the universality vocation existing in our geographic-cultural regions.

This institution counts with a valuable collection of different expression of contemporary visual arts that allows to exhibit periodically in Cuba, and in other countries, works by author from most diverse regions.

Havana Biennial constitutes the most important international experience at the Center. Sine it first summoning, in 1984, it has allowed to gather numerous creators, critics, directors of museums, gallerists, magazine publishers and collectors from all over the world by means of meetings, colloquies and round tables.

Other activities performed by the institution are : expositions, courses and cycles of lectures, researcher’s meetings, workshops of children creation and publishing.
