Cuban Tourist market hoping for 2 million visitors in 2004

Havana, Jul 16 (Prensa Latina) Cuba hopes to receive some 2 million 100,000 visitors this year, Tourism Vice Minister Oscar Gonzalez told the 2nd National Congress of Organizers of Events and Incentives, which began Tuesday in Havana.

The official indicated June witnessed a 12 percent increase in tourist arrivals, compared to the same month last year.

Referring to the Congress -attended by professional organizers of conventions and foreign personalities- Gonzalez stated Cuba can be a safe, attractive venue for meetings, given its relevant achievements in this sphere.

Opening the congress, Isabel Puebla, president of the Cuban Association of Organizers of Events and Incentives, assured such events are paving the way for the exchange and promotion of local products.

Conrado Martinez Corona, president of Cuba"s Conventions Bureau, informed the Island has organizing mechanisms that allow participants to congresses and meetings to participate in collateral programmes linked to culture, nature, sports, and places of historic and social interest.
