Is the estate organization that is in charge of three important sectors of the Cuban economy. • Energy • Geology and mining • Basic chemistry For its management, It is divided into eight Trusts of Enterprises that are in charge of the following tasks: • Production • Research • Projects • Maintenance • Construction • Internal Commercialization • Importation Of Raw Materials And Components • Exportation Of Finished Products During 35 working years the Ministry has created an important industrial base and a backing infrastructure, as well as a high specializing level for its labor force. The Energy Sector: It comprises all the activities related to oil and electricity, and it is up to the present organized into two solid organizations: • Cubapetróleo • The Electric Trust Cubapetróleo: It Is The Cuban Estate Oil Company, In Charge Of The Following Activities: • Prospecting • Exploration • Refining • Commercialization It is a full member of ARPEL and maintains close relations with OLADE and UNIDO. It disposes of an integral system of specialized enterprises, which comprises: Three enterprises in charge of the oilwell drilling and extraction Four oil refineries Territorial distribution enterprises National enterprise of lubricants, cubalub Prospecting and exploration: The main characteristics of the Cuban hydrocarbons potential are determined by update researches that include more than 70,000 km ² onshore and 70,000 km ² offshore. Twenty oilfields with a wide range of ° API and a current production of 37,000 b/d. Two methods are used for its operation: Capital association to increase production in the existing oilfields (Increasing Production Contracts). Risk exploration contracts, for which the country has been divided into 45 blocks: 35 onshore and 10 offshore (Production Sharing Contract). Refining - Commercialization: For the fulfillment of its operations it has: Four refineries with a total capacity of 5,6 M/t per year. A

The Electricity Trust: It is a Public Service Enterprise that generates, transmits, distributes and commercializes the electric power to satisfy all its clients expectations about the electric service. The electrification level throughout the whole country is of a 95% with more than 2,6 million clients. For its operation it has an installed capacity of 3267 MW, in 17 thermoelectric power plants properly distributed throughout the country with the following distribution and a transmission networks from the generation plants to each one of its customers: 6816
KM for transmission to 220 and 110 Among some other electricity generation sources is the possibility of co-generation in sugar mills, using husk and straw from the sugar cane. The Mining and Geologist Sector: It is the Cuban estate entity in charge of the prospecting, exploration and exploitation of metallic and non-metallic minerals with the exception of the nickel, operating in the risk form with foreign firms, focusing on very prospective areas like gold and silver. In the last 35 years it has carried out an intense program of geological mapping, geochemical and geophysical researches, with the following results: Geological
survey 1: 50 000 and 1: 10 000 from the 50% of the territory, where
are located the most prospective zones. Referring to non-metallics, the country has big zeolite deposits in the order of 500 million tones reserves, it also has highly pure calcium carbonate deposit, suitable for its production in a micronized way for the paper, plastics and paint industries. The Nickel Trust: Is a Cuban estate entity that deals with the nickel and cobalt exploitation and processing from lateritic minerals, by means of a solid organization with more than 50 years of experience. Cuba has one of the major nickel and cobalt reserves of the world located in the eastern part of the country with proven reserves of 800 million tons and probable reserves of 2000 million tons. The cobalt reserves are approximately the 26% of the world reserves, being the second in the whole world. This organization has a potential capacity of 70,000 tons per year for the nickel processing distributed into three producing plants. The Sector of the Basic Chemistry: It includes a wide range of productions distributed into four Cuban estate organizations: The Chemical Trust: It comprises fertilizers productions, industrial gases, paints, staple rayon fiber, chemical productions from electrolysis, plague killers, plastic bags and reinforced plastics productions. Vidrieras Caribe: It takes in glass packing productions, ornamental and domestic glass articles, glass articles for hotels and laboratories. The Paper Trust: It includes printing and writing paper productions, wrapping paper, grayboard, non-coated cardboard, liner board, corrugating medium, toilet paper, copybooks and notebooks, eggs trays, corrugated cardboard boxes, multiwall paper bags, simple paper bags, and asphalt fiber tiles. The Poligom Industries: It takes in tires and inner tubes productions, tires retreading, rubber foot-wear, and a large variety of technical rubber articles for different economic sectors as the chemical, sugar, food, poligraphic, pharmacist, domestic use and car industries. |
