Latin American Immigration in Cuba Forum

CUBA, February 7, 2007.- The 9th International Meeting on Globalization and Development Problems continues in this capital Wednesday, with 20 conferences on immigration in Latin America and other essential issues.

Today' s session will be open by Jose Antonio Alonso, director of the International Studies Institute at Madrid s Alcala de Henares University, who is expected to analyze immigration challenges for sending and receiving countries.

Andrea Gallina, from Denmark s Roskilde University, will tackle the international immigration impact in the economic development of a group of European countries, and Marco Zupi, from the International Policy Study Center of Italy, the evolution of that phenomenon in Africa.

Other issues are globalization challenges and its distributive impact, corruption and capitalism, economic policy of versus diversity and macro-economic policy for growth.

On Tuesday, Latin American Integration Association general secretary Didier Opertti highlighted the importance of this entity to achieve the insertion of the area in the world and diversification of intra-regional trade.

The 9th Meeting is attended by over 1,500 economists, political scientists, philosophers, sociologists and experts from nearly 50 countries, as well as representatives from 29 organizations and national institutions.

The forum, which will conclude on Friday, is mostly represented by Argentina, Colombia, Guatemala, Mexico, Dominican Republic and Venezuela. (Cubaminrex-PL).
