Infant Mortality Lowest in Latin America Havana, Sep 7 (Prensa Latina) Cuba has the lowest infant mortality rate in Latin America, occupying a position among developed countries, according to a report on fulfillment of the Millennium Development Goals announced here.
The infant mortality rate in the largest of the Antilles was at 5.8 deaths per thousand in 2004, the lowest in Latin America, which is at a developed-country level, the text says.
Cuba considers it has accomplished this millennium development goal promised to the United Nations Organization (UNO).
However, the report says the national objective is
to reduce the infant mortality rate of children under five by two
thirds, between 1990 and 2015.
