| Cuban University Programs expanding to the community level Havana, June 16 (AIN) The expansion of university studies to the community level will be high on the agenda of the upcoming session of Cuban Parliament this coming July 1. In statements to reporters in Havana, Cuban Higher Education Minister Fernando Vecino Alegret explained that the current 774 university branches presently operating at the municipal level achieve academic results similar to those of traditional higher educational programs. In his statements published Wednesday in Cuba's Granma and Juventud Rebelde news dailies, Alegret stressed the positive academic results of the new system which is aimed at making higher education courses available to the entire population. Current student enrollment in the community-based university programs has already significantly increased and is made up of Cubans from all walks of life. The Cuban Higher Education Minister said
municipal university branches are currently offering postgraduates
and masters programs in a host of fields, including scientific research.
The coming school year program will prioritize on-going training for
teachers, Alegret noted.
