One School Teacher in every 20 Students

In the academic course 2003-2004 Cuba is the only country in the world where there’s one school teacher in every 20 students in schools equipped with leading audio-visual stuffs like tvs, videos, computers, labs, and updated curricular programs, a new editorial program Libertad (Freedom in English), school material availability for all sort of student, and most important of all an Educational TV Channel destined to cast high qualified lessons, lectures, films.

According to Engineer Luis Ignacio Gómez, Minister of Education “the stock available today for the local educational system urges us all to work carefully so that our children learn much more since conditions are already set and given thanks to the great efforts exerted by all of us.

”New methods of working, studying and researching and managing must be found to improve and upgrade the personnel’s daily practice and performance at school and when handling valued resources provided to them.

Reach the highest levels of qualified services is an urgent must in educational system required at primary schools which particular and general organizing structure have been changed altogether. Likewise, it’s required to prove today’s lessons are not given only with a piece of chalk and a blackboard hanging on the wall but by making a proper use of audio-visual teaching means provided the Cuban school features no peers in the world.

There is an estimated number of 858 000 students attending primary levels and teachers enough to attain a record rate in the country (one teacher in every 20 students in a classroom). It’s the city of Havana again where the estimated number of beginners was fully reached.

"Teachers are well prepared and equipped with basic school materials. It must boost educational development”.

And a key note: over 85 % out of the existing 9 000 primary schools across the country features a double-shift-based schooling programs, a significant figure that shows a growth at 3 % compared to the one reached in the previous academic course. (February/2004)
