Cuban Employment Achievements at ILO
CUBA , March 21, 2007.- Cuba was able to lower its unemployment rate to only 1,9 percent in 2006, while the indicator of jobless people in the world reached 6,3, considered its highest level.
Cuban representative Gretel Hernández presented the island's achievements in labor policy and qualification during the meeting of the International Labor Organization Administration Council on the Global Employment Program, underway in Geneva, Switzerland, PL news agency reported.
Although economic increase is important for social development, people also need the implementation of policies that foster education and other programs aimed at achieving productive employment, said Hernández.
Cuba's achievement in lowering unemployment was due to a specific programs implemented in localities with the highest levels of unemployment.
The meeting of the ILO Administration Council will run until March 30th with the participation of delegates from 56 nations of the world.(Cubaminrex-PL).
