
Cuba Hopes Major Deals at Bolivia Climate Summit
BOLIVIA, Apr 20, 2010. - Cuba hopes important agreements during the first World Peoples'' Conference on Climate Change, taking place there April 20-22, Cuban ambassador to Bolivia Rafael Dausa stated.
The diplomat welcomed Bolivian President Evo Morales' initiative to summon this summit, which is attended by representatives from the five continents without exclusion.
The world's people truly interested in saving the planet will find in Cochabamba real answers and concrete actions in favor of Mother Earth, he noted.
Dausa sustained this kind of forums must continue, to voice demands not heard by industrialized nations, the main responsible for environmental pollution.
The Cuban ambassador attends the opening ceremony today of the Summit on Climate Change at the Esteban Ramirez Ecological Stadium, in Tiquipaya.
The organizing committee had to choose that venue due to the huge number of participants, almost 20,000 from about 130 countries, according to preliminary figures.
During the meeting, Bolivia will present several proposals like holding a world referendum on climate change on October 12, and the creation of a Climate Justice Tribunal to try governments and firms contaminating the planet.
