UN Approves Cuban Human Development Report Proposal.

UNITED NATIONS, February 4 TH, 2011.- The United Nations today approved a proposal by Cuba to improve the quality, credibility, accuracy and transparency of the Human Development Report (HDR), which prepares the agenda of the UN Development Program (UNDP).
As noted by Deputy Permanent Representative of Cuba to the UN, Rodolfo Benitez, the call for editorial independence of this device can not be interpreted as a right to impunity, lack of transparency and rigor, and political manipulation, reported PL.
"The HDR cannot convert itself into a prosecution and disciplinary tribunal of the developing countries, nor make value judgments about the political and economic systems of nations," he added.
The diplomat recalled that the General Assembly decided that the HDR should be conducted in a neutral and transparent manner, in full and effective consultation with the member states, taking into account the impartiality and use of sources.

The Cuban initiative was adopted at a meeting of the Executive Board of UNDP and the UN Population Fund.
The proposal became the focus of the event, which involved representatives from over a dozen countries who recognized its importance. (Cubaminrex – Granma)
