Non Aligned Experts Shape Documents

CUBA, 28 April 2009. Top-level experts from over 100 of 135 members and observers of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) are elaborating Tuesday the documents that ministers will sign April 30 in Cuba.

The over 400-paragragh Final Declaration is one of the texts practically ready for adoption, Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs Bruno Rodriguez stated Monday in his speech at the capital's International Conference Center.

"The United Nations must be reformed and turned into a real and effective instrument of cooperation and peace," said Rodriguez yesterday in the opening ceremony of the NAM ministerial meeting, presided over by Cuba.

"The Movement must play a central role in international relations, and the struggle for establishing a fair world economic order, in which the special and differential treatment of developing countries is a top priority," the diplomat stressed.

Referring to several regional conflicts, in which some members are involved, Rodriguez called to solve them in a peaceful way and without any foreign interference.

The Cuban foreign minister also exhorted in his speech to continue fighting for disarmament, avoiding the double standard in the struggle against terrorism and facing the world economic and financial crisis in group.

The current international financial system is unfair and has proved its incapacity to prevent the current crisis, the island official added, after expressing that developing countries are those that will inevitably carry the heavier burden.
