Non Aligned Movement Adopts Declaration on World Crisis

CUBA, April 30, 2009. The Movement of Non Aligned Countries (NAM) approved a special declaration on the world economic and financial crisis, which member nations dubbed one of the most dangerous threats the world is facing nowadays.

Chancellors and other ministers attending the Ministerial Meeting of NAM’s Coordinating Bureau, which closes today at Havana’s Convention Center, expressed their concern that the Third World countries are and will continue to be the most affected by this situation.

The document points out that it was in the industrialized nations where the current crisis affecting everybody originated as a consequence of structural imbalances and deficiencies of today’s international economic system.

The NAM members called for the building of a new financial international architecture, with equal voice and participation of the underdeveloped countries.

They underscored that the measures to be taken in order to fight the crisis effects should not aim at the maintaining the problems of the current international economic system, which is unfair, unequal and ineffective.

The required reforms should not be selective or carried out at the expenses of emerging nations, concludes the declaration. (Cubaminrex- ACN)
