Cuba Reiterates at the UN Stance in Favor of Nuclear Disarmament.
CUBA, April 21, 2011.- Cuba presented at the UN the initiative of an International Convention that allows for the elimination of nuclear weapons in a period no longer than 25 years and forbids them for good.
While speaking on Thursday to participants in the closing session of the United Nations Disarmament Commission (UNDC), Cuba’s representative, Rodolfo Benitez, denounced the lack of political will of some states to achieve real progress in terms of nuclear disarmament.
Likewise, the Cuban official proposed that, with at least half of the world’s military expenditures, a UN Fund was immediately created to deal with the economic and social development of countries in need, the Prensa Latina news agency reported.
The diplomat assured that Cuba will continue its work in the Commission and in other forums until achieving the prohibition and total elimination of nuclear weapons on the planet. (Cubaminrex-AIN)
