Cuba welcomes agreed second review of UN-Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy.
Cuba welcomes the adoption of the second review of the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy, approved this September 8 by consensus in the Plenary of the General Assembly.
The Cuban delegation participated actively in this process, given the high responsibility of all States in the fight against terrorism and committed with the multilateral efforts to end this scourge. Cuba reaffirms the importance of the Strategy as a central instrument that must guide the efforts of the States in the global fight against terrorism.
Cuba reaffirms its firm commitment in the fight against terrorism and in defense of multilateralism. Reiterates its strong condemnation of all acts, methods and practices of terrorism in all its forms and manifestations wherever, by whomever, and against whomsoever committed, whatever their motivations including those where States are directly or indirectly involved. The Cuban territory has never been used nor will it be used for terrorist acts against any country, without exception.
Cuba categorically rejects the decision of the United States government to include our country once again in the spurious list made every year with the countries that allegedly support the international terrorism. That list is unilateral, politically-motivated and comes from a country with no moral authority for judging others on terrorism. In United States, mainly in Miami, with total impunity funds are provided and collected for the realization of terrorist acts, it is provided safe shelter and it is aloud the use of territory to those who finance, plan, and commits terrorist acts against Cuba. An evidence of that is the case of the notorious terrorist Luis Posada Carriles, responsible for the blasting of a Cuban airplane with 73 passengers, among others many terrorist acts against our country.
In contrast with that situation, five young cubans, which only felony was to fight against terrorism to save the life of Cuban and American citizen, were condemn in United States to large sentences. Those men will meet soon 12 years of injust prison in this country. Cuba demands their immediate release.
In the struggle against terrorism are not acceptable the impunity and double standards. This scourge has to be combated in an environment of close cooperation among the States, based on respect for sovereignty and non-interference in the States’ internal affairs.
