Cuba denounces the sustained social and political dominance of U.S over Puerto Rico
United Nations, June 22, 2010. United States maintains its social and political dominance over the people of Puerto Rico, although it has its own national and cultural identity, said the ambassador of Cuba in the UN, Pedro Nuñez Mosquera.
Speaking before the Decolonization Special Committee, the Permanent Representative of the island introduced a draft resolution on the situation of Puerto Ricans, which is also co-sponsored by Ecuador, Nicaragua and Venezuela.
The text displayed by the Cuban diplomat urged Washington to assume its responsibility of expediting a process to allow Puerto Ricans to exercise their inalienable right to self determination.
Nuñez Mosquera stressed the special significance of the topic on the eve of the 50th anniversary of the adoption by the General Assembly of resolution 1514, symbolic and substantive document for the cause of decolonization. (Cubaminrex- RHC-PL)
