Brazil Calls for the End of U.S. Blockade against Cuba at the United Nations.

CUBA, September 24, 2010.-  The Brazilian government reiterated its condemnation of the illegitimate U.S. blockade against Cuba on Thursday.

At the opening of the debates of the United Nations General Assembly, Brazilian Foreign Minister Celso Amorim stated that the blockade has only achieved the creation of obstacles for millions of Cubans struggling to achieve development.

Amorim also stated that the coup against the democratically-elected Honduran President, Manuel Zelaya, in June, 2009, was a completely anti-democratic movement. He said that theZelaya´s return to power, without any threat to his freedom, is indispensable to normalize relations between Honduras and the rest of the region.

Amorim emphasized the significance of the creation of the South American Union of Nations to consolidate a zone of peace and prosperity in South America.

He called for the total elimination of nuclear weapons, and said that the unilateral reduction of these weapons is insufficient if other nuclear weapons are simultaneously being created. (Cubaminrex-RHC)
