Cuban Congress Honors Jose Marti

CUBA, January 28, 2009. The 11th International Congress "Pedagogia 2009" will honor Wednesday the 156th birth anniversary of Jose Marti, whom Cubans call "El Maestro," which means teacher in English.

Marti academics will pay tribute today to the author of The Golden Age, a literary and teaching monument, through debates on his pedagogical and humanist ideas.

A cultural gala will close this important Cuban date, after this biennial forum ends its second day of scientific labor, conferences and symposiums.

A conference on the educational goals for 2021 demanded Tuesday respect for the cultural plurality of Latin American societies.

Started in 1986 and with biennial nature since 1993, this Pedagogy congress fosters exchange of experiences among teachers from different countries, cultures and goals.

This event in includes the presence of 14 education ministers and representatives from other international organizations.
