International Conference WITH ALL AND FOR THE GOOD OF ALL
Palacio de Convenciones, La Habana, 24-26 October, 2005
CALLING
Background
The World Program in tribute of José Martí carried out throughout the planet on the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of that extraordinary personality of universal thought –which was sponsored by UNESCO, the Organization of Spanish-American States for Education, Science and Culture, as well as by a large number of universities, cultural institutions and non-governmental and political organizations from all continents– opened huge possibilities and created favorable and new conditions to enable the identification, establishment of relations and open exchanges among many personalities from the academic, scientific, cultural and political sectors, among others that have shown concern in the face of international events and are sensitive to endeavours aimed at social and human improvement and at rescuing life in the planet.
The best example of it was the International Conference ON WORLD EQUILIBRIUM as culmination of that world program in tribute to José Martí, which was celebrated in La Habana in January 2003 and attended by more than 600 delegates from nearly 60 countries, including relevant personalities of international prestige.
Based on that experience and in order to stimulate and systematize world forums for the widest possible debate of ideas among persons of good will all over the world, in accordance with the unifying, profound and deeply humanist thought of José Martí and with the purpose of further contributing to the consolidation of ethics, justice and solidarity in the conscience of public opinion, UNESCO approved the José Martí World Solidarity Project.
The International Colloquium FOR A CULTURE OF NATURE held in October 2004 was part of that scheme and those purposes. We are now calling for the International Conference WITH ALL AND FOR THE GOOD OF ALL, one of the main activities of the José Martí World Solidarity Project of UNESCO. Both forums are the continuation of the International Conference ON WORLD EQUILIBRIUM.
This trilogy of events fully entwines with Martí’s thought and its current validity, particularly in those aspects related to the need of searching for an equilibrium in international relations, society and in the individual; the importance of consolidating an ethics in the construction of a new relation between society and nature; in the enforcement of the principle of unity in replacement of the reactionary practice of division; the aim at achieving social participation in the face of the conservative practice of exclusion and segregation for reasons of race or genre and other forms of segregation; of stimulating and acknowledging the usefulness of virtue, the far-reaching role of education and culture in the forming of human beings with values that allow them to work in favor of common welfare and of becoming sensitive toward the best causes.
Attendants’ profile
The International Conference WITH ALL AND FOR THE GOOD OF ALL has been designed to meet as a multi-disciplinary forum, in such a way that it will be possible to broach with rigor and a spirit of good will the great and complex problems faced by modern mankind. Thus, this event will have a space for philosophers, historians, economists, lawyers and other specialists of the Social Sciences, as well as doctors, engineers, investigators of top technologies and artists as long as they are united in the common interest of social and human improvement; from university professors in the different branches of knowledge to activists of non-governmental organizations and politicians committed with a better destiny for women, men, children and old persons. In short, the idea that guided José Martí’s practice of working “with all and for the good of all” will find in the October 2005 congress we are calling for with sponsorship from UNESCO and other international and regional organizations a fertile space for the open and plural debate of ideas and everything that unites those who, in different specialties, tribunes and places, seek a better, sustainable world for all where peace, social justice, equity and a policy of solidarity prevail.
