Cuban Poet Miguel Barnet Praises José Martí´s Poetic and Lucid Vision
CUBA, May 19, 2010. President of Cuba´s Writers and Artists Association (UNEAC) Miguel Barnet reiterated on Tuesday in Las Tunas province his admiration for José Martí’s example of perseverance, leadership and his poetic and lucid vision of the world.
The renowned writer stressed that “when Lezama Lima said that “Marti is the mystery that accompanies us I have tried to understand what is the mystery, because for many he may be a mystery, but for me Marti is light that guides us”.
“Marti is not a secret, he is a giant door, the path to Damascus”, said the Cuban poet, narrator and ethnologist, who, as Jose Marti, was born on January 28th in Havana, but in 1940 (Marti in 1853).
During an interview in Las Tunas province, Barnet explained: “Marti is not a mystery; he was very clear and transparent in his thinking. Maybe Lezama Lima saw him from the poetic point of view”.
The President of UNEAC believes that “poetry should govern the world, but not all politicians think alike; Marti was a poet and politician. If Marti would have been at the Presidential Palace in 1902, he would not have handed Cuba over to the US or would have approved the Platt Amendment”. (Cubaminrex- ACN)
