United Nations Ratifies End of Anti-Cuban Human Rights Mandate

UNITED NATIONS, November 17, 2007.-  The UN General Assembly has approved by overwhelming majority the ratification of the decision of the Human Rights Council to eliminate the US-imposed human rights mandate against Cuba .

The demise of the resolution, which called for the appointment of a special Human Rights rapporteur for Cuba , was approved by 168 votes in favor, 7 against and 3 abstentions in the UN Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Committee.

"This is a historic victory for Cuba ," said Cuban Ambassador to the UN Rodrigo Malmierca at the end of the voting.

"Once and for all, we are burying all the vices and bad practice, including target selection, double standards and political manipulation, that plunged the late Human Rights Commission into discredit," he added. (Cubaminrex-RHC)

Cuba Raises Eyebrow at Bush Tantrum

UNITED NATIONS, September 27, 2007.-  Cuban Foreign Minister Felipe Perez Roque termed scandalous and rude US President George W. Bush's stance at the UN General Assembly.

"Bush, with a crude language and arrogant voice, insulted and threatened ten countries and gave strict and authoritarian orders to the General Assembly," the island's diplomatic chief stated Wednesday.

"It was an embarrassing show, the delirium tremens of the world gendarme. The imperial power's intoxication, livened up with all mediocrity and cynicism of those who threaten with wars in which they do not put at risk their life," said the island's official.

The Cuban foreign minister indicated that the statesman also talked of democracy, questionable after his arrival in the White House through fraud and deception.

"Bush is responsible for the death of 600,000 civilians in Iraq, authorizing torture at the US naval base in the illegally occupied Cuban territory of Guantanamo and Abu Ghraib, and he is accomplice to the kidnapping and disappearance of people, secret flights and illegal jails," he stated.

"Bush spoke against terrorism, but has guaranteed total impunity to abominable terrorist groups that, from Miami, Florida, have perpetrated horrific crimes against the Cuban people," Perez Roque concluded. (Cubaminrex-PL)
