Foundation of Community of CELAC will be Historical, Says Cuban Foreign Minister.
CUBA, 27 April 2011.- Cuban Foreign Affairs Minister, Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, said the official constitution, in July, of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) will be a historical event for the region and the world.
Rodriguez spoke at a preparatory meeting for the upcoming foundation of CELAC at the Melia Caracas Hotel in Venezuela in which foreign ministers and top government officials of the region discussed the foundational grounds of the organization and the working agenda for the July 5-6 Summit.
According to a report by Telesur, Rodriguez talked about the events that preceded the materialization of the integrationist project. He mentioned the Declaration of the Summit for Latin American and Caribbean Unity held on February 2010 in Cancun Mexico.
Rodriguez said Fidel Castro labeled the Cancun meeting back then as the most important institutional event that had occurred in the region in the last 100 years.
The Cuban FM noted that by the end of the working meetings in the current conference, there was a consensus on the emerging of the new organization.
Meanwhile, Venezuela’s foreign minister Nicolas Maduro said the upcoming Summit will tackle economic, social, environment and energy issues.
“We have worked in a harmonious and integrated way, which ratifies that the formula we adopted last July meeting in Caracas was very useful and beneficial, focused on the big goals we have set of seeing the birth and contributing to the construction of CELAC,” Maduro said.
The upcoming Summit for the foundation of CELAC will be attended by top representatives from all the countries of the continent except for United States and Canada. (Cubaminrex-AIN)
