Latin America and the Caribbean Wish Chavez a Speedy Recovery.
CUBA, July 5, 2011.- Trinidad and Tobago’s ambassador to Cuba Jennifer Jones wished Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, who is celebrating this Tuesday the 200th anniversary of the independence of his country, a speedy recovery.
Jones said she spoke on behalf of all Caribbean and Latin American nations when she expressed her support of the Venezuelan leader noting that he had done so much in favor of the solidarity, unity and independence of our countries.
“We salute, from Santiago de Cuba the brave Bolivarian people in their fight for equality and social justice, and we extend this salute to the Venezuelan delegation attending in this city the 31st Caribbean Festival.”
Regarding the event, known as Festival of Fire and which was dedicated to Trinidad and Tobago’s multiculturalism, the diplomat added that it strengthens the bonds between Caribbean nations and Latin America in general.
According to the diplomat, the event has functioned for three decades as a kind of cultural community of Latin America and the Caribbean.
Jones lauded her government’s efforts to put together a delegation that were representative of the country’s cultural diversity, and noted that the delegation was headed by Winston Peters, Minister of Art and Multiculturalism.
Likewise, she thanked Cuban cultural authorities, the different diplomatic missions of Caribbean nations in Cuba, and especially the Havana-based Caribbean House for the organization of the Festival. (Cubaminrex-ACN)
