CUBA, June 30, 2011.- Nestor Nazario, co-president of the Hostosiano Pro-Independence Movement of Puerto Rico, sent on Thursday a certificate of acknowledgement to Commander in Chief Fidel Castro and President Raul Castro for their historic support for Puerto Rico.

During a meeting held at Havana’s ALBA Cultural Center on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the Puerto Rican Mission in Cuba, the organization highlighted the constant work of Fidel and Raul to enforce the solidarity principles that have united the two Caribbean nations.

In his speech, Cuban Parliament President Ricardo Alarcon, who received a similar acknowledgement, expressed that Cuba’s support for Puerto Rican independence is not only a historic mandate, adding that this mutual solidarity will always accompany Cubans, along with the example of Puerto Rican patriot Juan Mari Bras.

Nazario announced that, as of June 30, the Puerto Rican Mission will bear the name of Juan Mari Bras, and thanked the Cuban people and Alarcon for their unconditional support in the struggle for a free and independent Puerto Rico.

Edwin Gonzalez, representative of Puerto Rico’s Mission in Cuba, said that this organization that now celebrates its 45th birthday has come to stay in its action of solidarity and in favor of independence.

Also attending the meeting were representatives of the Organization of Solidarity with the Peoples of Africa, Asia and Latin America (OSPAAL), the Cuban Institute for Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) and the Cuban Movement for Peace, as well as Puerto Rican youngsters studying in Cuba and in universities of their country, and members of a Puerto Rican delegation participating in the celebration.
