European Solidarity Brigade Begins Program of Activities in Cuba.

CUBA, July 4, 2011.- Members of the Jose Marti European Brigade in Solidarity with Cuba began on Monday a program of activities in the Caribbean nation that includes voluntary agricultural work, visits to places of socio-economic and cultural interest, and lectures on the current national and regional situation.

According to the Havana-based Cuban Friendship Institute (ICAP), among other activities, on Monday they are scheduled to pay tribute to National Hero Jose Marti and to youth leader Julio Antonio Mella.

On Tuesday, the brigadistas will participate in a meeting with relatives of the five Cuban antiterrorists who remain unjustly imprisoned in the United States since 1998.

Gerardo Hernandez, Rene Gonzalez, Antonio Guerrero, Ramon Labañino and Fernando Gonzalez —internationally known as the Cuban Five— were arrested and given harsh and unjust sentences for monitoring anti-Cuba right-wing groups that were planning and carrying out terrorist actions from South Florida against the island.

The contingent is made up of friends from Spain, Great Britain, Switzerland, Belgium, Russia, Greece, Ukraine, Turkey, Holland, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, France, Norway, Sweden, Austria, Germany, and Italy.

They will stay in Cuba until July 23. (Cubaminrex-ACN)
