Report of Commission II

The media is a key factor in how Cuba and its Revolution are seen over the World. The mainstream media publishes news about Cuba that are most of the time highly distorted.

From the dark days of the Batista dictatorship, the Revolution brought to Cuba a highly democratic society, in which through a parliamentary system every official is elected and can be easily revoked by the constituencies. At the same time, the Cuban Revolution has turned that country into one of the few in the entire world where no disappearances take place, no person is extralegally executed and where all the basic human rights are guaranteed to every citizen regardless of race, gender, social status, religion or political views.

In order to avoid people being misled by imperialist propaganda, our solidarity movement who is witness to the way Cuba has been able to develop under the banners of socialism has to work hard in several ways to spread the truth about Cuba and its Revolution.

1. We must try to access the mainstream media with the right information about Cuba, and address letters to editorial boards whenever distorted or untruthful information is published on Cuba.
2. Increase the use of alternative media, electronic publications, community press and radio, SMS delivery, e_ mail newsletters, etc. to publish information and news about Cuba.
3. Establish networks within our communities and among them that could create a web for distribution of information and publications bringing the truth about Cuba to and throughout the world.
4. Make use of attractive ways to address the younger members of our communities, and bring to them the contents that will interest them in Cuba: end` its socialist system of sustainable development. Use Cuban music,,d4nce, sports, films, documentaries and even telenovelas to interest the younger generations in Cuban life and ways.
5. Organize different types of activities like film festivals, fairs, rallies, readers forums, essay competitions and the like to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the Cuban Revolution. Attract the media to those in order to convey the real information about Cuba.
6. Look for ways to disseminate among each community books, films and information about Cuba.
7. Elaborate contents that show the local impact of Cuba and its activities in solidarity and internationalism.
8. Elaborate contents in local languages that will inform vast audiences that do not understand English or Spanish about Cuba and its Revolution.
9. The international solidarity movement must be always alert about imperialist attacks on Cuba and every time advise each of their own communities on the real situation about Cuba under the aggression of imperialist forces.
10. We should make use of information that is found in websites like:
a. www.plenglish.com
b. www.icap.cu
c. www.antiterroristas.cu
d. www.defensahumanidad.cult.cu e. www.rebelion.org
f. www.wikipedia.org
to distribute truthful contents about Cuba within our communities.

11.We should make it known that even with a population of less than twelve million people, Cuba is a world leader and it is among the most developed countries in the world in:
1. Olympic medals, 2. Baseball,
3. Boxing,
4. Track and field,
5. Volleyball,
6. Biotechnological products,
7. Vaccines and pharmaceuticals, 8. Diagnostics,
9. Medical care,
10. Infant survival and life expectancy, 11. Nutrition,
12.Surgery and transplants,
13. General education of the population. 14. Literacy,
15. Higher education, 16. Ballet,
17.Art and literature, 18. Music,
19, Disaster Mitigation
20. Dignity, friendship and solidarity

International solidaritity with Cuba is a good thing, but it is not enough. We should go beyond that to be able to defend and advance socialism in Cuba and all over the world against the forces of imperialism.

Contrary to the imperialist type of propaganda that demonizes Cuba, we should show Cuban humanism and its message. We should show that the hatred inherent in the imperialist aggressions to Cuba and other peoples in the world must be offset by the friendship and solidarity that Cuba and our movement promote throughout the world.

Cuba is a miracle at the doorstep of imperialism. We must show that instead of the soldiers imperialists send to kill and destroy to every corner of the world, Cuba is sending its medical doctors to heal, and its teachers to educate to more than 70 countries all over the world.

We should all integrate ourselves to the network in defense of humanity that has been created to maintain and promote the ideals of the Cuban Revolution.
