European Solidarity-with-Cuba Meeting opens in Bulgaria

CUBA, May 15, 2010. The XV European Solidarity-with-Cuba Meeting opened this Saturday with the laying of a floral wreath to the bust of Cuban National Hero Jose Marti, in Sofia, Bulgaria.

The bust is in a centric park named after Marti, which was built in 2004 by a group of sympathizers with Cuba.

Bulgaria-Cuba Friendship Association President Stanka Shopova confirmed the assistance of almost 100 participants from 27 European nations, among which are Germany, Austria, Spain and Greece.

Shopova spoke at a press conference where she said amount of participants shows the importance the solidarity with Cuba has at this moment, reported Prensa Latina news agency.

The opening ceremony will be held at the conference hall of the Moscow Park Hotel to set the guidelines of future action to support Cuba and the international campaign for the freedom of the five Cuban antiterrorists unjustly incarcerated in the United States.

Cuban Friendship Institute President Kenia Serrano heads the Cuban delegation to this event and had some previous meetings and visits to Bulgarian institutions.

Che Guevara´s daughter Aleida March and Elizabeth Palmeiro, wife of Ramon Labañino (one of the Cuban Five) are among the delegation which met with the Friends of Cuba Parliamentarian group.

This meeting was attended by representatives of all Bulgarian political parties. (Cubaminrex- ACN)
