Province of Villa Clara to Host Activities for Nelson Mandela Day

CUBA, July 12, 2010.- The Dr. Serafin Ruiz de Zarate Ruiz School of Medicine in Villa Clara province began activities on Monday leading up to Nelson Mandela Day.
        
Representative of the provincial office of the Cuban Friendship Institute, ICAP Iris Menendez Perez said that the education center was chosen to hold the activities due to the large number of South African students enrolled in different medical specialties, reported the Vanguardia website,

The event which is sponsored by ICAP will run through the 18th with a closing activity organized by the Young Communist League (UJC).

The activity will link the figure of Nelson Mandela and his years of unjust imprisonment with the five Cuban political prisoners currently incarcerated in the US for fighting terrorism.

Among some of the figures that will attend is Cuba´s first ambassador to South Africa, Angel Dalmau.

The UN announced July 18th as Nelson Mandela Day at the proposal of the African Union which coincides with the Year of Africa. (Cubaminrex -ACN)
