Cuban Friendship Institute Celebrates 50th Anniversary
CUBA, December 29, 2010.- Created on the basis of an idea of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro and consolidated over time, the Cuban Friendship Institute (ICAP) celebrated its 50th anniversary on Tuesday at a ceremony attended by Cuban Vice-President of the Council of State and Politburo member Esteban Lazo.
"When the Cuban government created the ICAP on December 30, 1960, the unwavering resolution of the Cuban people to stand strong and uphold socialism amazed the whole world. The Cuban revolution set a precedent, becoming an inspiration to many across the globe," said Cuban Parliament President Ricardo Alarcon de Quesada while addressing the participants.
ICAP workers decorated in recognition of their remarkable life’s work on the institution’s 50th anniversary.
The wall of silence has been brought down since, and honest people from all over the planet began joining our cause with the sole purpose of letting the world know the truth about the Cuban reality.
In this regard, ICAP Chair Kenia Serrano spoke about the steady progress of international solidarity movements, saying Cuba counts on the steadfast support of more than 2,000 friendship organizations based in 152 different countries.
Speaking to the audience, Serrano reaffirmed ICAP’s commitment to the international fight against the half-century-old economic blockade imposed on Cuba by the United States, where many solidarity organizations, such as Pastors for Peace, continue devoting lots of effort to put an end to injustice.
Among the highlights of the event was the handing over of special decorations to ICAP workers, recognizing their remarkable contribution over 50 years of work. Also paid tribute were friends of Cuba who have devoted important part of their lives to supporting the Cuban cause from abroad, without giving an inch to US threats and hostility. (Cubaminrex-Granma)
