Belize Youth Movement requests freedom for the Five

BELIZE, March 22, 2007.- Belize Youth Movement (BYM) the youth arm of the ruling People’s United Party (PUP) requests trough a setter sent to Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi and Senator Harry Reid, leaders of the House of Representatives and United Status Senate, respectively, to call their attention to the five’s case, knowing that justice should prevail and request your intervention to ensure a fair solution to what is clearly the unjust incarceration of the Cuba Five”.

The letter recalled that “the two main charges against the Five is something ordinarily used in politically charged cases: conspiracy” and they wonder “why are they in jail for espionage when even the prosecutor in his opening statement during the trial, conceded that the five young Cubans did not have a single page of classified information.

Also the BYM’s letter underlines that “the United Nations has been perplexed by this issue. They called the detention ‘arbitrary’ and ‘in violation of the international law’.(Cubaminrex-Embacuba Belice)
