Solidarity-with-Cuba Evening Celebrated in Moscow
CUBA, February 28, 2009. A solidarity-with-Cuba evening was celebrated in Moscow in which the performance by the Caramelitos Cubanos children group and the singing of the renowned song "Cuba, que linda es Cuba!" stood out.
The evening became as well a first approach to the reality and idiosyncrasy of the Caribbean nation by students of the Moscow 1542 school painting workshop, who were interested in representing Cuban motives in their work, under the tutelage of Cuban painter Omar Godinez.
The exhibition of the documentary film "Cuba, que linda es Cuba!" was the motive for the Russian students to approach the real, marvelous and mystical Cuban culture, which they do through visual arts, reported Prensa Latina news agency.
Marta Carreras, first secretary at the Cuban Embassy in Moscow, praised the initiative, sponsored by the Latin American Institute at Russia's Science Academy.
Carreras highlighted the fact that early age contacts are a guarantee to the continuality of the solidarity and friendship bonds between the two peoples, geographically apart, but close through culture.
Carreras gave a lecture explaining Cuba's patriotic symbols, their origin during the independence wars in the 19th Century and their meaning to Cubans.
The Cuban diplomat elaborated in the mix of races and cultures, which brought the creation of a nation with indigenous traditions and a particular hallmark, forged by several generations.
Carreras said that Cubans are friendly, communicative, open to diversity and to as many positive contributions possible to enriching their world; they are peace-loving people with a history of internationalism, friendship, fraternity and cooperation with other peoples of the World. (Cubaminrex- ACN)
