Southern Cross Brigade Arrives in Cuba
Cuba, December 29 -- The solidarity Southern Cross Brigade, whose members come from Australia and New Zealand, arrived in Cuba on Monday. They have come to do agricultural work, expressing their solidarity with the Cuban Revolution, and to celebrate the 51st anniversary of the revolutionary victory, commemorated on January 1st.
An official with the Cuban Friendship Institute (ICAP) said that members of the Southern Cross Brigade will be visiting places of social and historic interest like the monument to student leader Julio Antonio Mella, located outside the University of Havana, where they will lay a wreath.
During their stay through January 20th, the group of Australians and New Zealanders will do voluntary agricultural work and hold talks with members of youth, political and mass organizations.
They will also attend a conference on the challenges and potentials of the Cuban economy, and will meet with relatives of the five Cuban antiterrorists fighters incarcerated in the U.S. since 1998. (cubaminrex - RHC)
