Father Clifton C. Harris from Grenada’ Catholic Church Praises Cuba’s Solidarity with this country.

Grenada, 2 June 2010. Father Clifton C. Harris from Grenada’s Catholic Church praised Cuba’s solidarity with this country at a meeting held with the Cuban Ambassador to the island, Ángel Reigosa de la Cruz.

The representative of the Catholic Church explained that 65 percent of the Grenadian population is Catholic.  He also pointed out that this institution carries out works of social benefit such as the construction of housing units, support for poor families and distribution of breakfast at schools. The Church also runs over 60 elementary and secondary schools in the country.

On his part, Reigosa stated that the relations between the Cuban Government and the various religious denominations in the country are excellent, and he mentioned as an example of this, the meeting between the President of the Cuban State and Government, Raúl Castro Ruz, and the main figure of the Catholic Church in Cuba, Cardinal Jaime Ortega.

In addition, the Cuban diplomat gave an update on the negative impact of the U.S. blockade against Cuba, and on the case of the Five Cuban Heroes in prison in U.S. jails.
