Solidarity with Cuba Week in Grenada Closes with a Political Ceremony.
GRENADA, 28 September 2010. - The Solidarity with Cuba Week in Grenada closed with an exciting political and cultural ceremony.
The event was presided over by Joseph Gilbert and Denis Lett, ministers of Public Works and Agriculture respectively; Roland Bhola, member of the Executive branch of the New National Party (NNP); Ángel Reigosa de la Cruz, Cuban Ambassador to Grenada; Joaquín Lacke, official with the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples and executive members of the solidarity with Cuba organizations in the Caribbean nation.
Joseph Gilbert pointed out that Cuba is the country that has done the most for Grenada’s economic and social development. The minister of Public Works also demanded the lifting of the U.S. blockade on Cuba and the immediate release of the Five Cuban Antiterrorists jailed in the United States.
On his part, Roland Bhola, appreciated Cubans’ assistance to Grenada, as he suggested that Cuban history be taught at schools so that the new generations learn about the history of struggles of this nation.
In his passionate message on behalf of the Grenada-Cuba Friendship Association, Terrence Marryshow demanded the lifting of the U.S. economic blockade against Cuba and the release of the Five Cuban Heroes in prison in this country.
Ángel Reigosa, on his part, thanked the organizers of the Solidarity with Cuba Week and the Grenadian people in general for their expressions of gratitude and love, and called the lifting of the U.S. blockade on Cuba and the release of the Five Cubans serving long terms in U.S. jails.
A representation of Cuban and Grenadian workers who participated in the construction of the “Maurice Bishop” International Airport also spoke at the event as well as former soldiers of the Maurice Bishop’s People’s Revolutionary Government and other friends with Cuba.
Also in attendance were the members of solidarity with Cuba associations in Grenada, Cuba-trained Grenadians, parents of Grenadians studying in various Cuban provinces, Cuban cooperators working on this Caribbean island, members of the Cuban Community in Grenada and friends with Cuba in general.
