Friends of Cuba society (focus-South Africa) agrees to increase the campaign for the release of the Cuban five

South Africa, March 11, 2010. - The meeting of the National Executive of the Friends of Cuba Society resolved to increase the initiatives addressed to the release of the Cuban Five jailed in the United States and particularly to put an end to the violation of the rights of the wives of René and Gerardo who have been consistently denied visas to visit them for the last 11 years.  FOCUS intends also to promote the approval of a motion in support to the Cuban Five campaign at the National Assembly.

The statement issued at the end of the meeting urges the South African progressive forces to back the campaigns promoted by FOCUS which include the lifting of the unjust blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba.  Likewise it asks the members of the organization to join the “Alex Laguma” brigade to Cuba in December 2010 with the objective to consolidate the friendship relations between both countries.

The meeting presided over by Secretary General Cde. Chris Mathlako was attended by representatives of the provincial chapters of FOCUS in Limpopo, North West, KZN, Western Cape, Gauteng and Mpumalanga (Cubaminrex -  EmbaCuba Sudáfrica).
