Friends of Cuba Demonstrate their Solidarity with the Island
CUBA, Jan 11, 2010. - A dozen brigades and 14 solidarity-with-Cuba groups were welcomed in 2009 at the Julio Antonio Mella International Camp, located in the municipality of Caimito, on the outskirts of Havana.
Last year, the number of visitors reached over 1,800 coming from various countries, which participated in different productive tasks and tours of historical places, among other activities.
For them, visiting the camp was an excellent opportunity to know the country and to hold fraternal exchanges with Cubans and friends from around the world on contemporary issues and aspects of interest related to the island.
During their stay, they met with personalities and with relatives of the five Cuban antiterrorism fighters unjustly incarcerated in the United States since 1998 for monitoring violent activities against Cuba, organized by terrorist groups in Florida, and warn the island.
Antonio Guerrero, Rene Gonzalez, Ramon Labañino, Gerardo Hernandez and Fernando Gonzalez were condemned in Miami to harsh sentences, during a biased trial that concluded in 2001.
Since its founding on February 24, 1972, the camp has welcomed members from international brigades during their stay on the outskirts of Havana, where they carry out voluntary work in the fields of agriculture or construction, which they combine with visits to historical places in the area or in the Cuban capital.
The camp is presently undergoing a renovation process, which will soon be finished. ( Cubaminrex - acn)
