French Solidarity-with-Cuba Activist Awarded in Paris.
CUBA, November 23, 2010.- The attention children receive in Cuba in terms of health, education, protection and social work were extolled in Paris by French prize-winning educator Monique Peaincheau, who was presented on Monday with the award Women and Image of France.
The received the prize at the Senate in Paris from the NGO “Association of Women 3000 (Third Millennium)”, for her 10-year work in Cuba with the project Chantons et jouons en francais (Let’s Sing and Play in French).
After receiving the prize, the winner underlined the attention children receive in Cuba in health, education, protection and social work, as incomparable examples in Latin America and the rest of the world, the Prensa Latina news agency reported.
Peaincheau praised the Cuban Revolution for its contribution in these fields and concluded with a phrase by Commander on Chief Fidel Castro on the importance of taking care of children as a priority of future.
Monique Peaincheau excelled in Cuba with the aforementioned program, in which 2,300 Cuban children and youngsters are currently participating, who learn about the French culture and language in classes and weekend activities.
It’s a community program with the support of the Alliance Francaise of Havana and the Cuban Education Ministry, which offer the Abraham Lincoln Language School for these activities.
The awards ceremony, held every two years, was presided over on this occasion by Senator Michel Guerra.
Present among guests were the parents of French Foreign Minister Michele Alliot-Marie and Cuban ambassador in Paris, Orlando Requeijo.
A video on Peaincheau’s project was screened to illustrate her work, with comments by Cuban Professor Eduardo Torres- Cuevas, the director of Havana’s Napoleonic Museum, and the French cultural counselor in Cuba, among others. (Cubaminrex-RHC)
