Leader of French Left Leader defends Cuban Model.
CUBA, January 5th, 2011.- The chairman of the French Left Party (PG), Jean Luc Melenchon, on Wednesday defended Cuba demanding respect for its independence and sovereignty, and denouncing the U.S. blockade on the Caribbean country.
In an interview with French radio station, Inter radio, Melenchon said that Cuba is an integral part of Latin American playing a leading role in most important regional agreements.
Answering questions from the radio station’s journalists, the Melenchon, who is also a European Parliament deputy, stressed that any evaluation of the Cuban reality must take into account the deplorable hostility of Washington, with its economic blockade of over 50 years on the Caribbean country.
"The United Nations General Assembly votes for a resolution condemning the US blockade on Cuba, but Washington ignores it and its allies tolerate its stance," noted Melenchon.
The political leader also pointed out that the European Parliament rewards alleged Cuban dissidents, while the case of five Cuban antiterrorist fighters unfairly imprisoned in the United States is cloaked in silence. (Cubaminrex-RHC)
