CUBA, 02 August 2011.- Members of the 18th Latin American and Caribbean Cuba Solidarity Brigade began voluntary agricultural work on Tuesday.
The group of more than 100 people is lodged at the Julio Antonio Mella International Camp in Caimito, Artemisa province.
According to reports provided to Prensa Latina by the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), the brigade members are from Colombia, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Guadeloupe and Martinique.
The visitors, who will be in Cuba until Aug. 14, expect to meet with some of the relatives of the five Cuban antiterrorist fighters unjustly held in U.S. prisons since 1998.
Fernando Gonzalez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Gerardo Hernandez and Rene Gonzalez are serving harsh sentences for alerting Cuba to subversive plans hatched in southern Florida.
The Latin American and Caribbean friends also will tour many provinces, visit historic sites, meet with members from cultural, political and grass-roots organizations, and receive first-hand information about the situation in Cuba today. (Cubaminrex-PL)
