Non-Aligned Movement Demands Lifting of US Blockade against Cuba.

By Juan Leandro
INDONESIA, May 27, 2011.- The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) reiterated Thursday in Bali, Indonesia its call for the U.S. government to lift the economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba, imposed almost half a century ago.

altThe final declaration of the NAM Ministerial Conference terms the blockade as unilateral and contrary to the UN Charter, the international law, and the principles of good neighbors, also considered it responsible for material losses and economic damage to the Cuban people.

The NAM urged U.S. authorities to strictly follow the 19 resolutions passed for many years by the UN General Assembly rejecting such hostile policy.

The non-aligned countries also expressed concern over the increasingly extraterritorial nature of the Cuba blockade, and rejected the strengthening of measures adopted by the United States to intensify it.

They also exhorted the U.S. government to abandon the illegally occupied naval base of Guantanamo Bay, and end its aggressive radio and television transmissions against the island, which are – the declaration said – a blatant violation of Cuba's sovereignty and human rights. (Cubaminrex-RHC)
