Relations between Zambia and Cuba are Historic, Says President Rupiah Bwezani Banda.

CUBA, May 26, 2011.- Zambian President Rupiah Bwezani Banda, who headed on Wednesday the celebrations held in Lusaka on the occasion of Africa Day, described relations between his country and Cuba as historic.
Cuba like Zambia and many other African peoples were in the front line for the liberation of Africa and Latin America, the head of state told a team of the National Television Newscast.
We remember the struggles of our peoples for their liberation, which had their independence as a result, emphasized the leader.
He added that after the achievement of its independence in 1964, Zambia committed itself to the cause of the independence of other peoples, aware of the fact that it couldn’t be attained until the whole of Africa were free, he stressed.
The Zambian head of state also had words of praise for the Cuban people, which he described as special, because it hasn’t yielded to the United States and defends its rights to the highest price.
Wednesday's activities also included the placing of wreaths by the statues of the heroes and martyrs who contributed to African emancipation.
During his official visit to Havana on October, 2009, Rupiah Bwezani Banda asserted that he has learned a lot from Cubans, the experiences of which could be applied in his country. He fulfilled an intense work schedule that included official talks with his Cuban counterpart, Raul Castro, and a tribute to National Hero Jose Marti and African national heroes.
Likewise, he pointed out that relations between Cuba and his country have a great future. (Cubaminrex-ACN)
