The Humanistic Solidarity Association (Saint Lucia – Cuba) held their Second Quarterly General Meeting.

SAINT LUCIA, 18th April, 2011.-  On Sunday 17th April, the Humanistic Solidarity Association (Saint Lucia – Cuba) held their Second Quarterly General Meeting at the Babonneau Secondary School.

Wayne Louis, a Cuban Graduate in Civil  Engineering, who chaired the afternoon’s proceedings introduced members at the Head Table, who included President – Rawle Harvey, First Vice President –Irving John, Chairperson of the Committee in Defense of the Cuban Five –Velon John, Dr. Gregor Williams – Chairperson of the Scholarship Committee.  Wayne informed listeners of the VI Congress of the Cuban Communist party which is presently being held in Cuba and extended congratulations to the Cuban Communist Party on behalf of the Association.  He also reminded listeners of the success of the Cuban forces in defeating the mercenaries who tried to invade Cuba at Playa Girón in 1961. 

The Cuban Ambassador in Saint Lucia, Lydia González Navarro, spoke to those present of the VI Congress currently being held in Cuba, at the same time, he stressed the importance of the victory at Playa Girón, which not only led to a big victory the Cuban revolution, was also the first major defeat of imperialism in America. The Cuban ambassador also spoke about the shameless verdict in El Paso, which ended with the acquittal of the the connoted and confessed terrorist Luis Posada Carriles. He explained that the U.S. government is aware of Posada Carriles terrorist activities against Cuba. She presented the documentary "The Case of Cuba" and told those present that this production is being transmitted in Cuba every Monday night.

Anderson Desir, poet and member of the Association presented a reading of some of his poems while Matthew Lubin presented a reading of letters from Fernando; one of the Cuban Five, imprisoned in the United States.

The highlight of the afternoon was the showing of a 90 minute documentary entitled “Salud”; which showed the work of Cuban Medical Collaborators in the Gambia, in Africa, in India, in Honduras, in Venezuela; among other countries.  This documentary was very informative and touching and did have an emotional effect on some of those present.
