Venezuela Commemorates Anniversary of Cuba’s Victory in Bay of Pigs.

CUBA, April 16, 2011.- Venezuela’s Vice President Elias Jaua said, “The Cuban and Venezuelan people share the honor of having defeated U.S. Imperialism,” while speaking during a ceremony on Friday in Caracas to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the declaration of the Socialist nature of the Cuban Revolution and of the victory against the U.S.-backed mercenary invasion of Bay of Pigs.

Jaua noted that, while the Cubans beat the Bay of Pigs military invasion 50 years ago, the Venezuelans followed in their footsteps nine years ago when they rescued President Hugo Chavez after a coup d’état against his government.

Vice-president Jaua said, “Cubans and Venezuelans share common ground in their struggles for peace and love, in the face of the culture of death and terror promoted by the U.S. Imperialism.”

Peoples, united and organized, can defeat an empire, regardless of
how powerful it might be, and with dignity and consciousness they can build their own future.”

Present in the ceremony at the Military Academy in Caracas were the president of the Venezuelan National Assembly, Fernando Soto; the Minister of Defense, Carlos Mata Figueroa; and the Cuban ambassador to Venezuela, Rogelio Polanco; among other political figures. (Cubaminrex-RHC)
