Vice-President of Andean Parliament Criticizes U.S. Policy Toward Cuba.

CUBA, August 23, 2011.- Vice-President of the Andean Parliament and well-known international analyst, Alberto Adriazén, classified the inclusion of Cuba as a state sponsor of terrorism on the list of countries selected by the U.S. as unacceptable.

He said that this arbitrary gesture against Cuba is in line with a cold war mentality and is a concession to the most conservative sectors of Washington, like the extremist Tea Party. Adrianzén, who is part of the political bloc, Gana Perú, said that the region demands that Washington renounce its hostile policy against Cuba, cease the blockade, and re-establish normal, diplomatic relations with Havana.

He said that normalization of relations should include respect of the sovereignty and independence of the island and would benefit everyone, including Cubans who live outside of their country of origin. The hostility shown towards Cuba by the U.S. was also rejected and condemned by Gana Perú Congressman Javier Diez Canseco, poet Hildebrando Pérez, and journalist and social activist Gustavo Espinoza.
