STATEMENT.
HAVANA, November 18, 2011.- During this morning, November 18, 2011, the United Nations General Assembly adopted resolution A/66/L.9 to reinstate Libya to the United Nations Human Rights Council. The Cuban delegation voted in abstention to the resolution when the real intention of the Republic of Cuba was to vote against it. The reasons to do this are clear. We do not believe there are conditions to adopt the decision to reinstate such rights, at a time when there is no a constituted government in Libya and the circumstances surrounding the assassination of Muammar Al-Khadafi are not clear. Therefore, during today, the Cuban Permanent Mission to the United Nations is adopting the necessary steps to rectify the vote and so it appears in the United Nations General Assembly records.
