Cubans Continue to Protest US List of Terrorist Countries
CUBA, Jan 18, 2010. - Students and workers of Havana’s Higher Institute of Design (ISDI) signed a declaration against the inclusion of Cuba on a list of countries that, according to the United States, promote terrorism
Following the release of the list a couple of weeks ago, different groups and organizations on the island have expressed their outrage over Cuba being included on the list, which they consider absurd.
“If Cuba should be put on a list, it should be one of countries that contribute to international solidarity. We would be on the top of a list of countries that support education and respect for world peace,” the declaration states.
ISDI students and workers also questioned the moral authority of the United States to be judging other countries and releasing lists at their will.
“If we are going to talk about countries that sponsor terrorism,” they pointed out, “what should be the position of a country that promotes and starts wars? A country that writes pages of blood in Afghanistan and Iraq, just to mention a few? A country that has left a trail of terror in Cuba, that has shown its hate for the Cuban revolution since 1959 by imposing a blockade on the island, killing its children in terrorist attacks —such as the bombing of a Cuban passenger plane over Barbados in 1976—, or handing harsh sentences to the Cuban Five for trying to prevent attacks against Cuba organized by terrorist organizations in the United States?”
They concluded noting that Cuba has nothing to hide or be embarrassed about. “We will continue to work for a better country and for a better world. We expect nothing from the US government. The current administration is merely a faithful copy of the aberration to which we have always been subjected.” (Cubaminrex – Juventud Rebelde)
