To die for the country is to live.
“To honor the homeland is also a way to defend it”, said our national hero Jose Marti. A good reason to remember that, on September 11, 1983, the Cuban diplomat Felix Garcia, official from the Cuban mission at the United Nations, was murdered in New York by the hands of counterrevolutionary elements of Omega 7, one of the numerous terrorist groups whose headquarters are in Florida, acting against Cuba from United States territory. This day is remembered as the “Day of the Heroes of the Foreign Service”.
Andrés González Hernández, Minister Counsellor, and Sergio Restano Castro, Minister Counsellor, Cuban Mission at the United Nations, died on November 27, 1962 in a plane accident in flight from Lima, Peru.
Enrique Valdés Morgado and Juan Mulens Quirós, Diplomatic Courriers, died on March 15, 1963, victims of a criminal action against their flight.
Sergio Pérez Castillo, officer of Cuban mission in Canada, died in 1972 because of a terrorist action against the Cuban Commercial Office in Montreal.
Adriana Corcho Calleja and Efrén Monteagudo Rodríguez, officers of the Ministry of Foreign Affaire, died on April 22, 1976, while working in the Cuban Embassy in Lisbon, Portugal, because of a bomb left by terrorist elements.
Jesús Cejas Arias and Cresencio Galañera Hernández, security officers, they were kidnapped and disappeared on August 9, 1976, in Argentina.
Leandro Sandrino Izquierdo, officer, died while serving in the Republic of Angola on February 14, 1976.
Mario García Incháustegui, Cuban Ambassador to Japan and his wife Gladys Delgado Ortiz, died in a plane accident on December 4, 1977, while going to Malaysia, when their flight was kidnapped.
Our Commander in Chief, Fidel Castro Ruz, said in the closing of the III Congress of the Young Communist League on April 4, 1972:
“Do they think they’ll bring terror to this country? Do they think they’re going to frighten the Cuban officials and the Cuban revolutionaries? And do they think that carrying out this kind of coward attempts they will achieve their objective?
In this country, there is enough people to go wherever is necessary to take the necessary risks; in this country for every one that falls there are 10, 000 willing to take his place”
And that’s the way it is, because the genuine Cuban, the patriot, knows of the sacrifices made to achieve our present. To betray the glory and the blood shed by our heroes is unforgivable, because to die for the homeland is to live. (Cubaminrex)
