Supreme Court commutes Death Sentence in terrorism case
CUBA, December 29, 2010. - The Supreme People's Court of Cuba commuted Tuesday the death sentence of terrorist Humberto Eladio Real Suarez for 30 years in prison.
During the trial, Real Suárez' responsibility in the events for which he was sentenced in 1994 was confirmed, actions including illegally entering the central province of Villa Clara and acts against National security, as well as homicide and firearm use and possession.
In reducing the sentence, the Cuban court took into account the Decree of 28 April 2008 approved by the State Council through which was commuted the death sentence to several penalties, and the shown remorse of the defendant regarding the offenses. (Cubaminrex-RHC)
